While the Painted Hills is just one of three "units" of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument - each unit having been uniquely eroded to reveal different periods of time ranging from 5 to 55 million years ago - the Sheep Rock unit also looks more like a watercolor than reality. Plus, it's home to the awesome paleontology center where Wynne earned her third Junior Ranger badge.
