People always tell us that if we keep accepting invitations from strangers off the Internet, we'll end up being kidnapped. Well, I'll tell ya that we're definitely finding it hard to leave our #moochdocking spot on a property on a perfect little pond in Maine belonging to some folks who contacted us off the blog. Whether enjoying the waterside firepit, canoes and kayaks on the pond, the short drive up the road to Liberty Craft Brewing or just hanging out and getting to know them in their cozy 1000 sq ft house (including a loft, knotty pine tongue and groove ceilings and raked windows above the back glass door - all features we've designed into our new house), we're not sure we wanna be set free. It poured all morning and until about 1:00 pm yesterday, filling this canoe with several inches of water and making me glad I automatically tilt our awning every time input it up, but the afternoon was beautiful with just the first hint of Fall in the air. #Maine #sisterhoodofthetravelingparents #upacreek

Now that's a hardware store. Liberty Tool has racks and racks of tools of every age and vintage scavenged from all over New England, and the most prized stuff is in a museum across the street. I could have browsed here for hours, but the family was idling in the car outside with a sleeping baby. It'll be hard to leave this behind (our new friends and this lake, not the kid), but it's time to head out to the coast. Thanks so much to Liz and Gary for their hospitality! Stopped in to see the mom of a friend from college who has run a pre-school out of her house and has a garden full of chickens, playhouses, swings and tiny picnic tables for the little ones (and apricot scones for us!). Just a little scramble down the bank behind our campsite and there's this. So many broken clam shells to sift through and sea snails to watch. In the shady sites at Blackwoods in Acadia, the strategy was to get as much of the 405W on the roof as possible into the few hours of sun each day. We didn't leave the campground today, and we needed that. Lately it's been feeling like we're forcing the kids into the car several times a day, and we're looking forward to settling in (a bit!) back in Petaluma where we can walk or ride bikes most places.
