When you wake up to your batteries at 47%, your generator won’t run, the trailer’s cold, your Airstream door handle is a pair of vice grips, the CD of X-rays from the urgent care you need to send to Mae’s doc at home won’t run on Mac, your bike tires won’t hold air and when you stop for coffee that annoying “‘Cause You Had a Bad Day” song from American Idol comes on, you just kinda have to laugh.

Update: Generator is being serviced, sun is out and kids are playing with their road besties, found a self-threading bolt that should fix the door, BootCamp installed on the Mac and X-rays sent to the doctor, dropping bike off to have tubeless tires remounted and the lunch place is playing Billy Joel’s “Keepin’ the Faith.” #thegoodolddayswerentalwaysgoodandtomorrowaintasbadasitseems #itsnotalways🌈and🦄

This morning, we bundled up and walked down to the lake where our ROAMSchool group performed the play they’ve been working on under the direction of @backroadbennetts, and soon after, we said goodbye to @weelittlenomads and @airstream_charleston who needed to start towards their next destination.

The rest of the morning was spent doing life admin (emails, bills, organization) in the trailer until lunch. Later, I took the girls down to the lake to make prints of fall leaves with crayons and look for driftwood treasures, but the field trip was cut short when Mae let loose approximately 4 gallons of pee into her jeans and boots. It might have been more than that, but either way, no one was very happy.

In the afternoon, we drove into town to drop off my bike for service, poke around the multitude of “Montana vibes” shops and grab a treat at the bakery. A block away, we played family freeze tag in the park by the train depot until the adults’ lungs were burning and stopped before we hurt ourselves.

Around the corner from the bookstore where each girl got to pick out some new reading (Wynne a chapter book and Mae a pop-up), we met @his.tinyasscamper, @her.tinyasscamper, @simplylivingmore and @danielpoint1 for a quiet dinner for 11 where kids outnumbered parents.

We’re doing a lot of brainstorming on how to refine our family caravan/ROAMSchool concept, but today was a great mix of independence and community, and in a beautiful spot.

It’s pretty chilly in the mornings, so we decided to move ukulele class indoors (and under blankets). Last year at this time, we were just wrapping up a drive around Iceland in rented vans with @backroadbennetts and @his.tinyasscamper/@her.tinyasscamper which was a large inspiration for this year’s ROAMSchool. Tomorrow and Monday, we’ll all go our separated ways once again after an awesome adventure (and with plans in the works for the next!).

After that trip, our family continued on to Amsterdam and then drove a bed bug-infested motorhome to Portugal. Along the way, we stumbled on an amazing Halloween experience in a medieval village in France and ended up making the kids costumes out of an extra pillowcase. This year, we found a local school fundraiser selling used costumes for $5 and picked up some awesome ones.

All tucked in. I just added a review on @campendium for this campground. The previous reviewer seemed to think the proximity to some active train tracks was a deal breaker.
